Emberfall Legion blends a story-driven RPG with squad tactics. You recruit heroes, level them up, and place them on grid battlefields to hold the line against waves of raiders. It's slower than a pure tower defence game, but the character progression gives you a reason to keep pushing.
The writing is better than we expected for a mobile RPG, with a couple of genuinely surprising turns. Combat is turn-based with positioning that matters, so a tank in the wrong lane can lose you the fight. We liked that gear choices changed how heroes felt to use.
The downside is a slow early stretch before your party opens up. Stick past the first few hours and it becomes a very solid tactical RPG.
